Chapter 10 That's your fear!
Chapter 10 That's your fear!
After turning the corner, Li Jiuhe arrived at the street adjacent to the back mountain.
He quickly approached the place where he had last spotted Li Yi and that strange man. Just as he rounded the black SUV, he heard Li Yi's childish voice.
With a sharp cry, Li Yi stood in front of the tattered man, holding a silver dagger in both hands.
At this point, the blade of the dagger had completely sunk into the man's abdomen, with only the hilt remaining outside.
Li Jiuhe saw a hazy light flash briefly at the hilt of the knife.
The ragged man immediately took two steps back, snatched the knife handle with one hand, pressed his other hand against his wound, and looked up at Li Yi.
Judging from his gaze, he seemed to never expect that this naive little girl would suddenly pull out a knife and stab him.
However, the next second, a surging stream of water appeared out of nowhere, enveloping Li Yi completely and suspending her in mid-air.
This is exactly the scene that Li Jiuhe witnessed last time.
However, this time he arrived in time and was already beside Li Yi.
Just as Li Yi was caught in the torrent of water, her face filled with terror, trying to breathe but water kept pouring into her nose and mouth, her wrist was suddenly gripped by Li Jiuhe.
This scene was quite amazing.
Li Jiuhe put his hand into the swirling water and felt as if he were touching real river water.
He grabbed Li Yi's wrist and yanked her outwards with a sudden jerk. With a splash, Li Yi, along with a large amount of water, was pulled directly out of the strange water mass.
As Li Yi was out of danger, the water clump that had been floating and rolling in mid-air suddenly dissipated, disappearing without a trace right before their eyes, leaving not a single drop of water behind.
"Wow!"
Li Yi's abdomen convulsed, and she instantly vomited a large mouthful of water.
The water that was spewed out was also very strange; it disappeared without a trace before it had even fully landed.
Li Jiuhe supported Li Yi with one hand and gently patted her back with the other.
"Quick, don't let him..."
After spitting out the saliva, Li Yi immediately looked up, pointed to the middle-aged man's location, and then paused in surprise.
The silver dagger fell to the ground, and the man who had been stabbed was nowhere to be seen.
Li Jiuhe looked at the densely wooded back mountain in front of him: "Who was that person just now? He must have run into the back mountain."
Li Yi stretched out her cold, wet little hand and pressed it against the back of Li Jiuhe's hand: "Dad, there's no need to chase after them! I was too careless and didn't consider that my body is only that of a six-year-old."
She coughed lightly a few times, then pointed to the silver dagger that had fallen to the ground: "Pick up that dagger. Let's go back first, and we'll talk about it when we get back."
Li Jiuhe quickly went over and picked up the dagger, but his guard did not lessen. Instead, he looked up again at the dark and gloomy back mountain.
If he were to chase after him now, it would indeed be very dangerous, because the visibility was poor, and the middle-aged man was clearly ruthless and used strange methods.
Returning to Li Yi's side, Li Jiuhe picked her up and looked around to see if the truck would appear on the road again.
But this time nothing happened.
Li Yi's eyes darted around, taking in his cautious and wary expression.
The father and daughter didn't speak for a while and quickly returned to the community through the side gate.
When Li Jiuhe arrived at the apartment building, he found that the police car that had been parked downstairs was gone, which meant that the police had taken Jiang Kun and Chen Yin, who had turned themselves in, back to the police station.
Back home, Li Yi first changed out of her wet clothes, and then went to the bathroom to dry her long hair with a hairdryer.
After leaving the bathroom, she asked Li Jiuhe, "Dad, your first mission should have been successful. How did it go? Did you need to reset the mission?"
Li Jiuhe nodded: "I used it, and it felt pretty good. Without the mission reset, I probably wouldn't have been able to complete that mission. So what exactly happened just now? Who was that man with the tattered clothes?"
Li Yi said, "It was this man who brought Yao Yujie into the picture."
"What?" Li Jiuhe asked in surprise.
Li Yi nodded: "If the dead Yao Yujie appears, it means that the person from earlier is nearby."
"Who exactly is that person?" Li Jiuhe said, "Also, Yao Yujie really isn't a ghost, but rather a product of Jiang Kun and his girlfriend Chen Yin's fear. It's very strange! So you already knew what was going on beforehand."
Li Yi sighed, "So what if we knew? The plan still failed. That guy's abilities are too unique; he's very difficult to kill!"
Then she looked up at Li Jiuhe: "Dad, that person has a special ability just like you. We call him 'The Fear Eater'."
"A person with a fear of food?" Li Jiuhe was taken aback.
Li Yi explained, "He can capture the fear emanating from any living being, then materialize that fear, constantly frightening his target and absorbing more fear. This guy has always fed on fear."
At this point, she suddenly asked, "Did you just define searching for me as a mission as well? And before you saved me, you should have reset the mission once."
Li Jiuhe did not deny it, but nodded.
"So why did you reset the mission?" Li Yi continued to ask.
Li Jiuhe still didn't hide anything. At the same time, he glanced at the reset point under his eye, which had already received 2 reward points. The current reset point was displayed as "3".
"Because I died before the reset, stabbed in the throat by that guy. But before I was killed, I saw the truck that killed your mother, and that truck almost killed me too."
Li Yi nodded slightly: "It seems that what you fear most is the truck that killed your mother."
Li Jiuhe understood: "That guy called 'The Fear Eater' can directly reveal our deepest fears, like Jiang Kun and Chen Yin's fear that Yao Yujie's ghost will come back for revenge, and my fear of seeing that truck that killed your mother again?"
"Yes."
"So you were just submerged by that mass of water floating in mid-air? Is water your greatest fear?" Li Jiuhe immediately caught on to this.
Because his real daughter is only afraid of thunder, not water.
Li Yi nodded naturally: "When I was fifteen, I went on an autumn outing with my classmates and accidentally fell into a pond. Although I was rescued and was not seriously injured, I have disliked being in the water ever since."
She then reached into her pink cloth bag and rummaged around for a moment before pulling out a short dagger with bloodstains still on its blade.
The dagger was entirely silver, seemingly made entirely of silver, with a semi-circular rune engraved on one side of the hilt.
"This is the Silver-Etched Dagger; it can be used to kill the Fear Eaters."
Li Jiuhe was surprised, his gaze shifting back and forth between the dagger and Li Yi.
He suddenly remembered that his wife's gold necklace had gone missing a couple of days ago.
Judging from the appearance, it seems that Li Yi secretly took the necklace and exchanged it for silver, and then forged this strange silver dagger.
