Chapter 350: Go away, you old pest
Chapter 350: Go away, you old pest
Setan walked over to Sunny’s side.
Nina crouched beside the little cub and asked gently, "Sunny, would you be willing to let your father help you with your bath tonight? We’re leaving tomorrow, and your father... won’t be traveling with us."
Sunny looked at Nina, then at Setan. After a moment, he nodded his tiny head.
Okay. If Mother agrees, then Sunny agrees too.
Besides, he knew the bad lion had helped Mother today.
A smile appeared on Setan’s face, though a trace of bitterness lingered beneath it.
"Then tonight, Father will make sure you’re absolutely spotless."
It was the first time he had ever cared for Sunny this way. And perhaps it would also be the last.
Nearby, Idir approached Momo.
"Momo, would you let Father take care of your bath tonight?"
The little snake immediately took a cautious step backward. His tiny face scrunched into a conflicted frown.
Should he let the Big Bad Snake do it?
When Idir saw that reaction, he felt a surge of frustration.
The ungrateful little brat.
After all this time, the cub still would not even let him help with something so simple.
All the delicious food he had painstakingly prepared had clearly been wasted.
Momo noticed the look on Idir’s face and became even more conflicted.
The Big Bad Snake looked like he wanted to bite somebody. Maybe refusing was the safer choice.
So much for all that recent kindness. He had almost believed it.
Sensing the awkward atmosphere, Nina quickly stepped in.
"Momo, how about Mother and Father help you together tonight?"
The moment he heard that Nina would be involved, Momo’s eyes lit up. He immediately flew toward her, nodding enthusiastically.
"Okay! Momo likes it best when Mother helps!"
Idir almost laughed from exasperation. The difference in treatment was truly outrageous.
Nina carried him back to his small bath basin and gently lowered him into the warm water.
"All right. Time to get nice and clean."
Momo wagged his little tail happily. Nina scooped up water and carefully dampened his scales.
Meanwhile, Idir worked soap into a rich lather and spread it over the little snake’s body.
Nina picked up a small brush and began carefully cleaning each scale.
Watching her, Idir copied her movements and grabbed another brush of his own.
Momo melted comfortably into the basin, looking thoroughly content.
From a corner of the room, Phar quietly observed the scene. Seeing Nina so patiently caring for Momo reminded him of the day she had bathed him.
Heat immediately crept across his face. For some reason, he suddenly felt like taking a bath as well.
Ever since that day, he had handled it himself.
Since he always kept himself immaculate, Nina had never paid much attention to the matter again.
Meanwhile, Setan stood beside Sunny’s basin, gripping the edge somewhat awkwardly.
Despite all his confidence elsewhere, he had not yet begun.
After hesitating for several moments, he finally gathered his courage.
"Nina..." His voice carried a hint of nervousness. "It’s my first time doing this. I’m not really sure what I’m doing."
He paused before continuing. "Could you come teach me?"
In reality, he had secretly watched countless times and already knew exactly how to do it.
What he truly wanted was the chance to care for Sunny together with Nina.
Momo immediately wrapped his tail around Nina’s arm. He did not want her leaving yet.
She had not helped him in so long. At the very least, she should finish with him first.
Nina glanced down at the possessive little snake and chuckled.
"All right. Give me a few minutes. Once I’ve finished helping Momo, I’ll come over."
Setan’s eyes brightened instantly.
"Okay. I’ll wait."
Nearby, Sunny also perked up. Mother was going to help with his bath too.
Perhaps the bad lion was useful after all.
Across the room, Linny suddenly became restless.
Watching Momo enjoy Nina’s attention made him want the same thing.
He immediately tried to fly toward Nina.
Unfortunately for him, Aviel reacted first and caught him by the tail.
"What do you think you’re doing?"
Linny twisted around dramatically.
"Mother! My father is terrible at this too! He’s so clumsy and never does it properly. Can you help Linny too?"
Aviel nearly ground his teeth flat.
The shameless little brat was actually slandering him just to monopolize Nina’s attention.
Never cleaned properly?
Fine. He would remember that. Nina laughed helplessly.
"Okay. Wait your turn. Mother will help you later too."
Aviel dragged Linny back toward his basin.
"Sit there and behave while you wait."
The moment the other cubs heard that Nina would also help Linny, they became restless as well.
One after another, they started trying to volunteer themselves.
Linny had barely poked his head up before Kith firmly pressed him back down.
"Your mother already has enough to do."
Yinny looked at Nina, considered it seriously, and finally settled back down without another word.
Didi had barely started inching away when Finch caught him by the tip of his tail.
"Don’t even think about it. Stay still and let me finish washing you."
Didi pouted dramatically but obediently settled back down, allowing Finch to continue.
Nearby, Shushu had just opened his mouth to protest when Yanai covered it with one hand.
"Do you want to exhaust your mother? Lie down and behave while I wash you."
Shushu huffed in dissatisfaction but flopped down anyway.
On the other side of the room, Mimi happily splashed water with both hands. Resting her chin in her palms, she watched her brothers being scolded by their fathers and found the whole thing highly entertaining.
She had no reason to be jealous.
Out of all the cubs, Nina bathed her the most often.
Lani sat nearby, keeping her company and playing with her while she watched the commotion.
Working together, Nina and Idir quickly finished bathing Momo.
Nina carefully lifted the little snake from the basin and wrapped him in a soft animal hide towel, gently drying him.
"All done. Our Momo is now a clean, sweet smelling little cub."
Momo’s eyes curved into happy crescents.
Raising his tiny head, he planted a kiss on Nina’s cheek.
"Mother washes the cleanest and feels the nicest."
Idir arched an eyebrow.
Oh?
Apparently Father had done absolutely nothing.
Testing his luck, he leaned his handsome face closer.
A small tail immediately smacked him across the cheek.
Go away, you old pest.
Idir’s face darkened.
Without hesitation, he turned and kissed Nina himself.
At least he could soothe his wounded heart after being rejected by his ungrateful son.
Now it was Momo’s turn to scowl.
Shameless.
Completely shameless.
Nina laughed helplessly and handed Momo to Idir.
"All right. Mother has to help your little brother Sunny now."
Momo immediately nodded obediently.
The moment Nina walked away, however, he buried his head and refused to even glance at Idir.
Idir snorted and stayed behind, waiting for the remaining cubs to finish.
Nina crossed the room and stopped beside Sunny’s basin.
"Setan, shall we begin?"
A smile immediately spread across his face.
"Of course."
He pointed toward the bathing supplies.
"First we wet him down, then we use that thing called body wash, right?"
"That’s right."
Nina began pouring warm water over Sunny’s tiny body.
Just like Idir earlier, Setan helped work the cleanser into a rich foam.
Together they carefully washed Sunny, cleaning every inch of him from head to ears, neck, paws, and tail.
Sunny sat quietly with his eyes half closed, allowing them to fuss over him.
Throughout the process, Setan’s hand occasionally brushed against Nina’s.
Every accidental touch sent his heartbeat racing.
Before long, the tips of his ears had turned bright red.
Looking at Nina’s gentle smile and the obedient little cub resting between them, an unfamiliar warmth spread through his chest.
It felt like happiness. Pure and simple.
For a dangerous moment, he found himself wishing time would stop.
If only this could continue forever. If only this were a dream.
Then perhaps he would never have to wake up.
Sunny was small, and before long the bath was finished.
Setan felt an immediate pang of disappointment.
How had it ended so quickly?
Nina lifted Sunny from the water and wrapped him securely in a soft hide blanket before handing him over.
"Help him dry off. I’m going to wash Linny now."
All the other cubs had already finished.
Only Linny remained.
Setan carefully accepted the tiny lion cub.
"All right. Go ahead."
Nina hurried over to Linny.
Earlier, Aviel had been mildly annoyed by his son’s antics.
The instant Nina approached, however, every trace of irritation vanished.
Truthfully, he wanted this too.
He wanted to stand beside Nina and bathe their cub together.
The three of them. Like a family.
Linny’s bath ended quickly as well.
The little cub was delighted.
As soon as he was clean, he flew into Nina’s arms and planted a kiss on her cheek.
Aviel briefly considered leaning forward himself to see whether he might receive the same treatment.
Then he remembered what had happened to Idir.
Immediately, he abandoned the idea.
Linny’s tail was surprisingly strong.
There was absolutely no reason to test it.
Instead, Aviel simply kissed Nina himself.
Linny rolled his eyes.
Another shameless father.
Once all the cubs were clean and dried, Nina gathered them up and returned to her room for the night.
Setan remained standing outside.
He watched the door close behind her.
The soft sounds of the family faded from hearing.
Only then did he turn away and return to his own room.
Instead of resting, he settled against the wall closest to Nina’s chambers.
Quietly, he stared out the window into the darkness.
For the first time in his life, he found himself hoping dawn would never come.
Because when morning arrived, it would also bring the moment he had been dreading.
The moment he and Nina would part ways.
