Chapter 118 Texas Hold'em
Chapter 118 Texas Hold'em
In the end, Li Wei gambled twice more to satisfy everyone's curiosity, turning one million into four million before standing up with the chips amidst a chorus of pleas for him to stay.
However, perhaps due to the uproar among the crowd, or perhaps because they wanted to expose the "true face," the lobby manager suddenly made a suggestion in front of everyone.
"Mr. Li Wei, would you mind if the gambling games in the VIP lounge were broadcast live?"
This was the first time Li Wei had ever heard of someone willingly going out of their way to embarrass themselves.
And being someone who enjoys watching a spectacle, he naturally had no reason to refuse.
Why should I refuse?
Li Wei smiled.
The lobby manager, like a butler of a European nobleman, bowed deeply and showed his respect.
"Thank you for your generosity, please follow me."
After he stood up, the lobby manager made a subtle gesture to Li Wei and waited quietly.
Li Wei didn't say much and started walking away.
Soon, guided by the lobby manager, the two took the elevator to the VIP reception room on the third floor.
The lobby manager proactively opened the door for Li Wei, just like pressing the elevator button for him when he was getting on an elevator.
When the door opened, Li Wei was somewhat surprised.
"Drake?"
In the spacious and luxurious hall, a round table was placed in the center, surrounded by only three high-backed chairs.
Drake sat on the side of the round table, waving at Levi with a big smile.
"Hi."
He waved as if meeting an old friend, while Li Wei went straight to the last empty chair and sat down.
Then he made a joke at Drake, who was diagonally opposite him on the left.
"What, now that you know I won money, you can't wait to collect your debts from me?"
Drake shrugged.
"Li Wei, although my family is in the lending business, we are not a gangster's 'loan shark'."
As he spoke, Drake pointed to the wall clock in the corner.
"And there's still a full hour until midnight. If you pay back the money now, it will truly become an 'interest-free loan'."
"I'm not making any money."
"So, from my personal perspective, the best outcome is that you lose everything after midnight."
Drake's honesty was unsettling, but he showed no sign of backing down.
"Of course, there's an even better outcome—you lose everything and then borrow money from me."
"Of course, if you really do lose all your money this time and are preparing to borrow another sum, I can only provide you with an additional 20,000 at most."
Levi completely ignored Drake's obviously mocking remarks and instead looked at the person sitting in the third high-backed chair.
Red hair, blue eyes, a generous heart, and a beautiful woman.
Upon noticing Li Wei's gaze, she rested her chin on her hand and looked back at him without any attempt to hide it.
That unbridled gaze seemed to see right through Li Wei.
However, after looking her up and down, she gave a bright smile and waved her fair hand at Li Wei.
"Hey, handsome. Your name is Li Wei, right? I've never heard of you before. Aren't you active in North America?"
Li Wei thought for a moment and then answered the red-haired beauty's question honestly.
"I was more active in Libya and South Sudan before."
The red-haired woman was taken aback, then asked with a puzzled look, "What city is this?"
Drake put down the champagne glass he had been holding to his lips and looked at Levi with some surprise.
After a moment of silence, he began to explain to the red-haired woman.
"Idris, Libya and South Sudan are not cities, but two African countries rife with turmoil and poverty."
Drake seems to know the red-haired beauty and makes no attempt to hide it.
However, Li Wei didn't feel there was any problem.
Drake was clearly a big spender and a regular customer, so it was normal for him to know the "experts" on the Platinum Star. Who knows, maybe they played a few rounds in their spare time, or maybe Drake even learned a few moves from this "Etricia" in front of him.
So he didn't delve into that point, but instead planned to ask directly, "What are you playing?"
But before he could speak, Etris asked a question first.
"A place rife with poverty and unrest... it must be tough to run a casino there, right?"
Etricia looked at Levi with a questioning gaze.
Li Wei, however, continued to speak the truth while remaining evasive.
"The place is so poor that many people have never seen cash in their lives, and the land, which can change hands eight times in a single day, cannot be approved for the construction of casinos."
"So I never saw a casino there, and I rarely saw people who could fill their stomachs or any decent buildings."
Livy, in a calm yet eerily calm tone, described in just a few words a scene that resembled a painting of hell.
But Etris didn't seem to care about how those she had never met were doing; she only cared about the issues she wanted to care about.
"So, you're not involved in casinos? Then where do you hang out?"
"battlefield."
Levi's answer was still concise, but Edris didn't quite believe it and instead looked at Drake, who had even stubbed out his cigar.
"What Li Wei said is true."
Drake paused for a moment.
"At least based on the archives and documents, it is true."
After he finished speaking, Drake apologized to Levi.
"Excuse me, as the debtor, I need to know some basic information about the indebted person."
"If you feel that I have violated your privacy, I will provide appropriate compensation."
Li Wei frowned, but not simply because he was dissatisfied; he was thinking about a problem.
He remembered... his security clearance level should be quite high, so why did it seem like Drake found out so easily?
When did OMPF (Official Military Personnel Files) become a marketplace? You can just walk in anywhere...
Ok?
Li Wei suddenly realized something... he seemed to still have a paper file outside.
It seems to be... Wesker? In the hands of a friend?
He vaguely remembered that his file had been taken away by the FBI for some reason.
Okay, the source of the leak has been found.
However, he couldn't remember why he was taken away for the time being.
But Li Wei didn't care much.
It's just a file and some information; it's not like someone pulled down your underwear. There's nothing to worry about.
So he went straight to asking about what he was most interested in.
"What game shall we play?"
Etricia blinked, quite generously relinquishing the initiative.
"Mr. Li Wei, since you have been invited here, to ensure fairness, you may choose what games we play."
Li Wei pondered for a moment, rubbing his chin with one hand, and then bluntly designated the project.
Texas Hold'em.
After he finished speaking, he looked at Drake.
"Do you mind?"
Drake simply shrugged.
"Don't look at me, I just came over to watch the fun."
After saying that, he pointed to the small stack of chips in front of him.
"Look, I only brought 100,000 in chips."
Li Wei nodded and looked at Etricia.
Etricia smiled.
"Mr. Li Wei, you seem quite confident."
"And me..."
"What I do best is to win in the areas where my opponents excel."
