Chapter 31 Acting 1
Chapter 31 Acting 1
Filming continued in the morning.
With Mr. Hu, a top-notch lighting director, joining the team, Huang Min has indeed had a lot of trouble.
He can accurately reproduce facial skin tone, as well as micro-expressions such as "cold sweat, tension, and trembling," which makes it much easier for Huang Min to capture these emotional changes.
This is also the most basic skill required of a top lighting director.
After reading the script, I knew what kind of lighting and shadow effects were needed for the play.
Standing to the side, Zhou Hong watched as Huang Min picked up a beverage prepared by the crew with the brand label torn off, took a sip, and began to demonstrate. She looked regretful.
This is Huang Min's directorial debut.
If it were any other well-known director, there would definitely be brands willing to sponsor the project, which would have allowed them to earn a product placement fee. However, the result was that the scene of the director drinking a beverage was wasted.
After finishing his drink, Huang Min didn't swallow it directly. Instead, he swirled it around in his mouth a few times before swallowing and exhaling. Then, he sat up straight, wiggled his arms, took a deep breath, and looked up at the camera.
I watched the anniversary video very carefully.
Even Director Hu, who came today, glanced over, whether intentionally or unintentionally.
"This acting..."
Old Hu looked somewhat surprised.
As someone working behind the scenes in the film and television industry, Mr. Hu is certainly no stranger to acting skills, and may even be very familiar with them. That's why he was shocked. The main reason is that Huang Min's acting was too natural and seamless.
"You give it a try."
After demonstrating once, Huang Min said to Zhou Nian, "For this scene, I need you to appear calm and professional..." He paused for a moment, then turned and called out, "Makeup artist!" After two makeup artists came over, Huang Min instructed them, "Deepen the forehead wrinkles on Teacher Zhou's forehead, and add some shadows to her eyelids to make her look more haggard."
The two makeup artists immediately picked up their makeup tools and began to redo the anniversary makeup.
"No need for hair. Teacher Zhou can fix it herself when filming starts. It's okay if it's a little messy."
After explaining everything.
Huang Min walked over to Mr. Hu and began to speak with him: "Mr. Hu, when Mr. Zhou takes the phone later, I need the right side of the phone to be brighter, while the side next to him should be darker."
"No problem, you mean steady, panic, and despair, right? No need for bright lights, just normal light. Use cool light for steady, harsh light for panic, and dim light for despair."
Old Hu replied.
"You're still the most professional."
Huang Min gave a compliment.
No matter what it is, if you want to do it, you must find a professional to do it. It's not impossible to have a lighting director, but you need Huang Min to speak up, and then you need to make adjustments many times to meet Huang Min's requirements. Unlike someone like Hu Lao, who can tell you what kind of light and shadow dynamics are most suitable as soon as he finishes speaking.
In retrospect, Lin Wan had done him a great favor.
Su Qing poached the former lighting director and his entire team, who were not very professional, and found him a better one. In just over twenty minutes, the anniversary makeup was touched up. He performed it once according to Huang Min's demonstration. Huang Min said, "Take a deep breath, don't take it so hard. After all, this is also an opportunity for Yin Hua."
Huang Min corrected the parts of the anniversary performance that were not up to par.
After several takes, the sixth scene of "The Terror Live" was officially filmed. Huang Min sat in the director's chair with his eyes fixed on the monitor. In the scene, Yin Hua, played by Zhou Nian, pushed her messy bangs back with a slightly heavy hand. Her face looked haggard and stiff, and her Adam's apple was slightly hot. Then she picked up her drink, took a sip, held it in her mouth, and drank it down with the same action that Huang Min had demonstrated. Then she took a deep breath and looked up at the screen.
"Click"
Huang Min picked up the walkie-talkie and shouted, "This one's through!"
Anniversary sighed with relief.
Even though Huang Min would demonstrate twice before filming, Zhou Nian was still under a lot of pressure. The main reason was that this movie not only revolved around him as the protagonist, but also involved a significant portion of the scenes being filmed with close-up shots of his face. Such a movie... probably only happens once. Even if a movie has close-up shots, there aren't many. But in "The Terror Live," almost half of the scenes are focused on his face.
The story is intricately linked, making it both suspenseful and tense.
As the protagonist, he is the same.
If his face can't hold up, the whole movie will be ruined. When other movies fail, the male lead can find excuses, saying that the director didn't shoot well or that the script was bad. But this movie is different. To put it bluntly, Zhou Nian himself will be too embarrassed to go back to the film and television industry.
Feeling nervous, after filming, Zhou Nian pulled up a chair and sat down next to Huang Min, asking him to replay the scene from earlier.
"Don't put so much pressure on yourself, your acting was fine."
Huang Min laughed.
"I'd love to be the male lead in your second film!"
As Zhou Nian stared at the footage playing on the monitor, he said, "Your encouraging approach yesterday was very effective. I can clearly feel that many of the crew members are working much harder today than they did the previous two days."
"Everyone in this industry, even those working behind the scenes, has some desire to appear on screen, so it's normal for it to be effective; it would be abnormal if it weren't."
In this regard.
Huang Min, on the other hand, saw things very clearly.
Let alone young people, many older behind-the-scenes workers also want to experience acting. Generally speaking, such opportunities are not many. It's not that directors are heartless and don't give opportunities, but that many behind-the-scenes workers simply don't have acting talent. No matter how they act, they feel out of place, so they can only stay behind the scenes.
Huang Min is different. Anyway, some scenes in "The Terror Live" require extras, so he just lets these behind-the-scenes workers do it. If one take isn't enough, he'll do it twice, if two takes aren't enough, he'll do it five times, and if that still isn't enough, he'll do it ten times. He doesn't expect everyone to have their face shown, but at least their figures have to appear on the screen.
He doesn't have many chips left.
This can be considered a small but significant bargaining chip to win people's hearts.
The key is to hone a few skills so that when they make films in the future, they won't need to look for actors for important supporting roles; they can just go for it directly. Even if they are offered extra pay, they can pay less.
Now that he's a director, Huang Min has to consider building his own filming crew. Su Qing is very capable and can solve the difficulties that arise during filming, but she can't help him build the crew. That's something Huang Min has to do himself.
It was almost noon.
When Su Qing arrived at the film crew, in addition to herself, she also brought three other lighting technicians. Together with Old Hu and the four she had previously hired, there were eight of them in total, which was more than enough.
After handing the person over to Old Hu, Su Qing sat down in the chair next to Huang Min, who was eating a boxed lunch: "Your ex-wife's agent called me last night."
"How much was the annual salary?!"
Huang Min asked.
"I offered her ten million."
Su Qing said calmly, "She refused."
"I suspect it's not just a simple rejection!"
After taking a couple of sips of winter melon soup, Huang Min laughed and said, "If I were her, I would definitely call you crazy. Lin Wan earns about 100 million a year. I introduced Zhang Xiaohua to her. Because it's a private studio, Lin Wan doesn't give her agent a high commission, only 15%. That means Zhang Xiaohua can get between 15 and 20 million from Lin Wan a year. You directly asked for a 10 million annual salary, meaning that by switching jobs, you've almost matched what she's worked for all these years. It's normal for her to scold you. It's only because she didn't take a kitchen knife and chop you up that she thinks it's not worth getting executed for you."
"How much do you think I'm worth?!"
Su Qing did not refute, but instead asked a question in return.
"Ten billion!"
Huang Min said earnestly.
"So you think you can create 200 billion in value yourself!?"
Su Qing asked again.
"I think it's useless; it's up to you to decide."
Huang Min smiled and turned to look at Su Qing, who was sitting in the chair next to him: "However, the fact that you chose to scare Zhang Xiaohua away with an annual salary of ten million at least proves that you are more inclined to believe that I can earn you an annual salary of more than ten million."
"My belief is useless; you have to convince the market."
Su Qing replied calmly.
"The Terror Live doesn't need the market's belief yet; that will be needed after its release. Right now, I need your belief more than anything else."
After finishing his lunchbox, Huang Min asked, "Are you free this afternoon? If not, we can film your scenes. You're so pretty, how can you not be on screen? Since you're directed by the same person as me, you have to be prepared to be on camera..."
Seeing Su Qing open her rosy lips as if to refuse, Huang Min said in a deep voice, "Don't refuse. You know I'm short on funds for filming, so we have to save money wherever we can."
Watching Huang Min walk away with his lunchbox toward the trash can, Su Qing couldn't help but roll her eyes.
