Chapter 28 Pressure
Chapter 28 Pressure
"So what if it is, humans? We have a pact with you; we are not enemies."
Lucia replied coldly.
"Whether it's true or not, it's up to me to decide."
Willis calmly stated, "I am a hero of the Holy See, and I have come here to determine whether you succubi are allies or enemies of humanity."
"If they are allies, everything remains the same."
"If they are enemies, then eliminate them. The Vatican will send people here to deal with you periodically."
Willis's voice was devoid of emotion, as if he were stating an inviolable rule.
"Why should I?" Lucia asked.
"The Vatican possesses the power to set the rules." Willis clenched his fist, a momentary unease crossing his face. He said, "Whether you like it or not, you cannot resist."
"Then how do you determine whether we are enemies or allies?"
Lucia's tone remained calm throughout, because she was simply reciting her lines.
Fortunately, the armor Caesar gave her had a mask, otherwise Willis would have noticed that Lucia already had a fierce look on her face, baring her teeth.
She thought this brave man was too arrogant and just wanted to go up and punch him a couple of times.
Willis, of course, had no idea that Lucia was already seething with hatred for him. He still thought this succubus leader was a wise and brave person, and continued to answer.
"Before I met you, I was prepared to compare your nature to that of thieves. If you are above that passing grade in my mind, then we can be considered allies."
Willis had not formally joined the Church before becoming a hero, but after that, he abandoned his faith in God and never stepped into a church.
But he must at least nominally join the Vatican and be crowned at its headquarters after achieving legendary status; otherwise, he will be imprisoned now for murder in the street.
His aversion to the Papacy was no less than that of the nobles, so naturally he would not define succubi's subservience according to the Papacy's rules and regulations.
Otherwise, given that succubi must absorb human life essence to survive, they would be relegated to the demon race, just like the vampires of the past.
"Then go explore the fifth floor. We have never hidden our true nature, nor have we ever harmed any adventurer with our own hands."
Lucia shrugged, offering no rebuttal to Willis.
"I still need to train at this level. Please go ahead."
"Don't go yet."
Willis stepped forward and questioned:
"Are there any other powerful beings like you among the succubi? What are your intentions in hiding and feigning weakness to the outside world?"
"Hero, what do you mean by this?" Lucia stopped in her tracks.
"You succubi live off the essence of other races, and even use it to level up, making you similar to the vampires on the surface."
"If a large number of succubi possessed your potential, and the dungeons went berserk in the future, your succubus race could seize the opportunity to break out of the dungeons, or even allow a large-scale escape of succubus slaves from the surface..."
"What are the chances that you could establish a nation on Earth that rivals that of vampires? How many lives would such a nation claim in the future?"
Although Willis despised the Papacy, he wouldn't completely reject everything about it because of that dislike. After all, his goal was to become a partner of justice.
Some races are born evil—like goblins.
Lucia's face flushed beneath her visor. She struggled to suppress her anger and calmly replied:
"Among the succubus race, Luna and I were the first to be born. We are special. No other succubus has any chance of breaking through level 40."
"Our information is all kept in the Stone family and has never been hidden."
"You are indeed very special. You are very strong and highly talented. You are fundamentally different from the succubi on the surface."
Willis became interested, or rather, he had been highly interested ever since he sensed Lucia's enormous magical fluctuations.
Since becoming a hero and believing in and practicing the belief that "might makes right," Willis has devoted himself to becoming stronger.
He was able to advance nearly thirty levels in two years without the support of the Holy See. Besides the powerful talent brought by the hero profession, his almost self-torturing training also contributed a large part to his success.
During this process, Willis also developed a great hobby: challenging strong opponents.
Fighting against stronger opponents often allows Willis to discover his shortcomings and improve rapidly.
He had never encountered anyone like Lucia, whose level was not several ranks higher than his, yet who could give him a real sense of 'power'.
He had a feeling that if he could fight Lucia, he would definitely gain a lot.
"Fight me, Succubus, then take me to see Luna. I'll verify everything myself."
Willis drew his sword from his waist, its cold light flashing.
Lucia didn't move. Just when Willis thought he still needed to explain the theory of "uncontrollable resistance" to the succubus, Caesar's order came down.
"Go, Lucia! Beat him so badly he won't even recognize his own parents in heaven!"

Suddenly, crimson flames ignited, and an intensely dense crimson magical power rose from Lucia's body. Fine magical veins filled every inch of her flesh beneath her armor, and the surging magical power roared like a great river, instantly strengthening Lucia's body to its limit.
This was a surge of magic beyond limits. Lucia immediately felt her body breaking apart, her flesh tearing, and her blood being vaporized by the magic in an instant, with new blood being created again.
It hurt a lot, but Lucia felt better than ever before.
"A hero is someone you fight!"
