Chapter 37 Ruins
Chapter 37 Ruins
As the world gradually turned pure white, Lin Chen floated in the corridor, focusing his consciousness and retracing back to seven minutes ago.
The entity suddenly appeared on the third floor, seemingly preparing to arrest a few more students. Therefore, Lin Chen deduced that the time it first arrested people could not have been long ago.
Sure enough, when time rewound to five minutes, Lin Chen saw the classroom door be pushed open and the blackboard head entity walk in.
"Don't touch my students!"
The teacher blocked the students' way, and the blackboard-headed figure picked up a ruler and chopped down.
"what!"
While the teacher was falling to the ground, the solid figure at the top of the blackboard waved its hand:
"...Probationary period..."
Six students collapsed to the ground as if suddenly lost in thought. A few seconds later, they stood up, followed the "blackboard leader," and walked out of the classroom.
Lin Chen followed them out and saw that the blackboard leader had opened a door in the wall and led the students inside.
Can I go in? A question popped into Lin Chen's mind.
He followed the blackboard head, went through the door, and found that the scene around him had changed.
Wow, they managed to get in there.
Lin Chen looked around: what came into view was a gray corridor with concrete walls on all sides.
He roughly memorized the features of his surroundings, then took a deep breath and exited the "Mirage City".
"..."
As soon as Lin Chen opened his eyes, he found a beautiful face right in front of him.
It was Li Zhanyi.
The girl's eyes were very close to his, almost touching.
"Amazing..." Li Zhanyi muttered, "I still can't figure out what kind of spiritual knowledge this is..."
"Super hearing." Lin Chen shrank back a little, feeling somewhat uncomfortable.
He turned to look at the teacher and asked:
"Are there any buildings on campus with walls made entirely of concrete? The architectural style is very old, with many arched structures."
"have..."
The teacher weakly raised her head:
"There's an air-raid shelter underground...you can go down from the school building..."
"That should be it," Lin Chen nodded. "The hostages are in the air-raid shelter."
"Are you sure?" Li Zhanyi asked.
"Sure."
"Then let's go, I trust you." Li Zhanyi nodded slightly.
Just then, footsteps sounded outside the classroom, and Lucy entered with more than ten soldiers from Section Two:
"The road is completely cleared," Lucy waved her hand. "Let's go, kids, let's get out of here."
The children were clearly surprised to see Lucy, who was about their height, carrying a machine gun, but her adorable appearance seemed to give them a strong sense of affinity, so they all obediently followed Lucy.
After evacuating to the first floor, Lin Chen and Li Zhanyi found Lucy and explained the situation.
"The hostages are down there?" Lucy turned her head and looked at the stairs leading to the basement. "Let's go down again."
"Are you alright?" Lin Chen asked.
"It's nothing, it's just a minor injury."
Lucy shook her head and pressed her earpiece:
"Louis, what's the situation?"
"The depth is still falling, and the strength of the dimensional stability anchor doesn't seem to be able to delay the process."
"How many anchors?" Lucy asked Marcus behind her.
"Five of them, placed on every floor." Marcus frowned.
"Looks like the problem really is underground..." Lucy sighed. "Ugh, so annoying... But where did this information come from? Was it from your amazing little brother?"
"That's my guess," Lin Chen said, "but it seems I guessed right."
"Nonsense, you're making a fool of yourself for your older sister."
As Lucy inspected the light machine gun in her hand, she said:
"Marcus, send the children and teachers out. The depth is dropping too fast, and there might be entities outside that slip out. Make sure it's safe before they come to our aid."
"no problem."
After Marcus finished speaking, he led the soldiers and escorted the children away.
Lucy turned to look at Lin Chen and pointed to his sewing kit:
"Let's replenish our sanity. Judging from the strength of that blackboard head, it's likely to be a tough battle ahead."
Lin Chen nodded, took out a syringe, filled it with the blue medicine, and injected it into his arm.
"Sizzle..."
After the three of them finished receiving their injections, Lucy took the lead and began to advance underground.
After turning a corner and descending two flights of stairs, an iron gate blocked their way.
"Lens," Lucy whispered.
Lin Chen took out a lens and held it against the door; all he could see was gray and white.
"There's nothing there," he replied.
"Prepare for a charge."
Lucy reached out and grabbed the door lock, looking at Li Zhanyi behind her.
"Three...two...one..."
"Click!"
Lucy pulled on the door lock, and the high temperature melted the lock, causing it to fall to the ground.
She charged in with a machine gun in hand, followed closely by Li Zhanyi, and then Lin Chen.
However, when all three of them crossed the gate, they were dumbfounded by what they saw before them—
What came into view was not an air-raid shelter, but a long corridor of a teaching building.
No, this doesn't look like a school building corridor at all. It's so narrow that it's barely wide enough for two people to stand side by side. The classroom doors are all the same, and there are even doors on the ceiling.
This is more like... something mimicking a scene set up in a school building.
"Depth 1.1," Li Zhanyi glanced at the measuring instrument in his hand, "This place is completely subspaced."
"Does this mean I'm in a subspace ruin on my first day of work?" Lin Chen said in a low voice.
"Not yet. This space still has an exit to the outside world," Lucy frowned. "Once that exit disappears, this place will completely fall into the subspace and become ruins."
"We need to speed things up."
After saying that, the three of them began to walk down the eerie corridor.
Every now and then, Li Zhanyi would open a door and look behind it: most of the time, there was only a concrete wall behind the door, sometimes it was pitch black, and an eerie wind blew into the corridor, startling Li Zhanyi so much that he would slam the door shut.
"Don't open doors randomly, or you'll get your clothes dirty," Lucy turned around after noticing. "Let's move forward first, check the nature of the space, and then make a plan."
"oh."
Li Zhanyi turned around and looked at Lin Chen, who seemed to be deep in thought.
Lin Chen didn't notice Li Zhanyi's gaze. As he walked, he would occasionally activate "Mirage City" to track the children's whereabouts.
In the pure white landscape, the scene was still an air-raid shelter when the children arrived, but as they went deeper and deeper, the scene began to change.
When the scene had completely turned into a chaotic corridor, the blackboard head suddenly turned and opened a door.
"here."
Lin Chen, who was at the back of the group, stopped and turned to look at the door beside him.
Li Zhanyi and Lucy turned their heads together to look at Lin Chen.
"Are you sure?" Lucy asked in a low voice.
"I'll go first."
After Lin Chen finished speaking, he opened the door and rushed inside.
What comes into view is half a classroom, which looks messy, with chairs piled up to the ceiling, forming a wall.
At the other end of the wall of benches, someone was shouting:
"Very good, let's go through the scene one more time, get ready..."
"YoYo! My lads! Captain England is here to save you!"
