Chapter 43 The Wild Boar Returns and Beats His Wife
Chapter 43 The Wild Boar Returns and Beats His Wife
That deep snore carried a wild, oppressive feeling.
Jiang Milu shrank back in fright, almost pressing herself against Song You's back.
Song You stepped forward, completely blocking her behind him.
His movements were calm, without the slightest sign of panic.
"Don't be afraid, it won't dare to come closer."
He conveyed a simple and direct message: "Step back."
The sow behind the bushes received this thought, and the grunting in her throat instantly subsided.
Its wary little eyes revealed a hint of grievance and confusion, as if to say:
"I was just looking, I didn't do anything."
It shuffled out of the bushes, its massive body stopping in front of Song You. Then it lowered its head and gently touched Song You's trouser leg with its nose, as if it were being affectionate or complaining.
The little piglet behind it followed suit, running over with its short legs and circling around Song You's feet.
Jiang Milu peeked out from behind Song You and stared dumbfounded at the surreal scene before her.
A 300-pound wild boar was sitting so obediently at Song You's feet.
"Song You, how...how did you do that?" she stammered, her voice filled with disbelief.
"Maybe it's because I look reassuring," Song You casually made up, then squatted down and patted the sow's huge head. "Alright, stop standing there, go play with your kids, don't scare the guests."
He conveyed a sense of reassurance.
The mother boar obediently shook her head, nudged the still-frolicking piglet with her snout, and led it slowly back into the woods, where it soon disappeared from sight.
Jiang Milu looked in the direction where the wild boar disappeared, then at Song You, who had a calm expression, and felt that her worldview had been severely impacted.
In her memory, Song You, though intelligent, was just an ordinary person who couldn't even kill a chicken.
Who exactly is this man who can reason with wild boars?
"Alright, stop looking and get to work." Song You's voice interrupted her thoughts.
"Oh, oh." Jiang Milu came back to her senses, and her eyes looked at Song You with more inquiry and admiration.
She took a thick notebook out of her backpack and opened it.
"The method you mentioned is theoretically correct, but there are many details to pay attention to in practice."
She pointed to the dense handwriting and hand-drawn diagrams in the notebook and began to explain to Song You.
"Look at this peach leaf curl disease. Its pathogen spores overwinter in the crevices of the bark and in the bud scales, so just spraying pesticides is not enough. You also need to do a thorough orchard cleanup before spring. Also, the concentration of the lime sulfur mixture you used is very important. If it's too concentrated, it will burn the tender buds; if it's too diluted, it won't be effective."
Her voice was clear and crisp, her logic was sound, and she radiated confidence when she spoke about her professional knowledge.
Looking at the neat handwriting in her notebook, and the important points and precautions marked with different colored pens, Song You couldn't help but admire her.
Just then, the interface of the Druid's Diary automatically popped up in his mind.

Song You's heart skipped a beat.
Does this work?
Jiang Milu's class notes have actually become a skill book that can be learned in the eyes of the system!
Looking at Jiang Milu's profile, which appeared exceptionally serious due to her focus, a bold idea popped into his mind.
If we could get all of her notes from the agricultural college...
"Hey, what are you spacing out for? Are you even listening to me?" Jiang Milu waved her hand in front of his eyes when she saw that he hadn't reacted for a while.
"I'm listening, I'm listening." Song You snapped out of his reverie, a sincere smile spreading across his face. "An expert is an expert indeed. A single conversation with you is worth more than ten years of study. Um, could I borrow your notebook to take a look?"
"Take a look, you probably won't understand it anyway." Jiang Milu generously handed him the notebook.
The two worked until almost sunset before they finished the initial treatment of the remaining diseased trees in the orchard.
"It's getting dark, let's call it a day." Song You patted the dirt off his hands.
Jiang Milu was also exhausted, her forehead covered in sweat. She glanced at the sky, a barely perceptible hint of anticipation flashing across her face.
"It's so late," she muttered to herself.
Song You looked at her, knowing the answer already, and asked, "Yes, it's so late. Where are you staying tonight?"
Jiang Milu's eyes lit up for a moment, but quickly dimmed again. She lowered her head and kicked at the pebbles at her feet, making a soft sound.
"My grandma went to my uncle's house in the city. I'm all alone in the old house. It's dark and I'm a little scared."
"That is indeed a problem." Song You nodded seriously, pondered for a moment, and said, "It seems you won't be able to go home tonight."
He paused for a moment, looking at Jiang Milu's bright eyes that suddenly lifted, before slowly continuing, "There's no other way, you'll have to stay here for the night."
"Mmm." Jiang Milu nodded quickly, as if afraid he would change his mind.
Back in the courtyard, Song You led her to the guest room next to his room.
"This room is usually unoccupied, and the bedding has been recently changed. Please make do with it."
"It's fine." Jiang Milu looked around the clean and tidy room and nodded in satisfaction.
Then, under Song You's gaze, she very naturally unzipped her backpack and took out a cute bunny pajama set, a pack of toiletries, and a clean towel.
The preparations were quite complete.
Song You chuckled inwardly but didn't expose her little scheme.
"Then you go wash up first, I'll go cook for you."
Jiang Milu carried her change of clothes into the bathroom, and soon the sound of running water could be heard.
Song You returned to the kitchen, took out a few pieces of pickled cabbage that Jiang Milu had brought from the earthenware jar, and cut them into small pieces.
The tangy and appetizing aroma instantly filled the air.
He tasted a small piece, and his eyes lit up.
It's sour, crisp, refreshing, and fresh, with a unique sweetness that makes it taste better than many other pickled vegetables he's ever eaten.
When Jiang Milu came out of the shower, her hair still wet and hanging over her shoulders, Song You had already cooked two side dishes and a pot of rice.
The two sat at the stone table in the courtyard, eating under the dim light.
"Your pickled cabbage is absolutely delicious!" Song You picked up a piece with his chopsticks and praised it highly. "How did you make it? Teach me."
Jiang Milu ate her meal in small bites, and upon hearing his praise, a hint of pride appeared on her face.
She put down her chopsticks and cleared her throat mysteriously.
"This is our family's secret recipe, passed down only to daughters, not sons."
"That amazing?"
"Of course," Jiang Milu said seriously. "The most crucial step in pickling this sauerkraut is to stomp on it with your feet. It must be the feet of a young girl, and she must fast and bathe before stomping on it. Only sauerkraut made this way will have enough flavor."
Song You's chopsticks, which were holding sauerkraut, stopped in mid-air.
He looked at Jiang Milu's serious expression, then looked down at the sauerkraut in the bowl.
"puff--"
He suddenly turned his head and spat out everything in his mouth.
"Jiang Milu! You need to have a conscience!" He coughed for a long time, his face turning bright red. "I even saved room for it."
"Hahahaha!" Jiang Milu couldn't help but burst into laughter, slapping the table, when she saw his disheveled appearance.
"I was just kidding, you idiot! My teacher taught me to rub it with my hands!"
Song You then realized he had been tricked, and he was both angry and amused, pointing at her for a long time without being able to say a word.
Just then, a commotion suddenly arose from the direction of the back mountain.
That wasn't the sound of wind blowing through the trees, but a frenzied, deafening roar mixed with impacts and screams.
Song You's smile vanished instantly.
He closed his eyes and sent a thought, through the whispers of nature, towards the back of the mountain.
The next second, a chaotic mix of violent, angry, painful, and fearful emotions surged into his mind like a tidal wave.
In his perception, a male wild boar, nearly twice the size of the female boar and equipped with sharp tusks, was frantically ramming its massive head against the female boar's body.
The female wild boar let out mournful cries, but was pinned to the ground and unable to move.
Song You suddenly opened his eyes.
"The male wild boar is back." His voice was somewhat somber. "And he's beating his mate."
