Ever since Su Jin met Mao Wa's three friends, the three of them have treated her as Mao Wa's girlfriend.

Because their friend Maowa wasn't someone who was keen on pursuing girls, this was the first time a girl had appeared at his apartment in all the time the three of them had known him.

Although Maowa always denied it, all three of them were certain that their judgment was correct.

Park Sung-ho greatly admired Su Jin, especially after Su Jin casually remarked at a dinner party that the kimchi at this restaurant wasn't very authentic. Park Sung-ho was so excited that he almost swore brotherhood with Su Jin on the spot.

One sunny afternoon in May, Maowa came out of the lab and habitually took out his phone to check it. There were three unread messages.

The first message was from Su Jin, asking Maowa what he wanted to eat tonight so she could go to the supermarket to buy it.

The second message came from James. He said he had filmed a short video, just finished editing it, and wanted to take it to Maowa's apartment that night to show everyone. If Maowa agreed, he would contact Park Sung-ho and Han Woo.

The third message was also from this guy; he said he would bring beer over as well.

Mao Wa sent Su Jin a message, telling her that three of his friends would be there tonight, and asked her to buy more ingredients. He said he would pay for the ingredients this time, and asked her to pay for them in advance.

Then he replied to James, telling him that it was okay, but he shouldn't bring anyone else besides Park Sung-ho and Han Woo.

That evening, James, Park Sung-ho, and Han Yu each showed up at Mao Wa's apartment door carrying a case of beer.

Su Jin opened the door. She had arrived earlier and had just finished helping Maowa prepare the ingredients. Maowa was busy in the kitchen, so she was left to open the door.

James entered with a grin: "Su, I knew you'd get here before us."

Su Jin frowned as she looked at the three of them, each carrying a case of beer. "Why did you bring so much beer? Are you here to see a movie or the Super Bowl?"

"I noticed there wasn't much stock left here last time, so I restocked a bit." James still had that same carefree, jovial look on his face.

Since they haven't officially confirmed their relationship yet, Su Jin naturally can't say much.

After putting down his beer, Park Sung-ho went to the kitchen: "Dude, what delicious food did you make today?"

Maowa was busy cooking and didn't have time to pay attention to him, so he gestured for him to look at it himself.

"Damn it!" Park Sung-ho exclaimed in his native language as he saw the dishes that were already prepared, and reached out his hand towards them.

"Chopsticks!" Maowa reminded him, sounding annoyed.

A dozen minutes later, the five people sat down around the small dining table, crowding it to the brim.

Among the group, James and Park Sung-ho were particularly enthusiastic. They wolfed down their food, and two-thirds of the dishes ended up in their stomachs. Su Jin was especially curious about Park Sung-ho's mouth. It didn't look very big, but each time he would take a big bite of food. She really didn't know how he managed to stuff it in.

After the meal, Su Jin cleaned up the dishes as usual. Mao Wa wanted to help because there were quite a lot of dishes today, but Su Jin firmly refused.

After Su Jin finished her work, James pulled his laptop out of his bag with a smug look on his face: "Let me show you the work of the future Oscar-winning director."

The group was already used to James's speaking style, and they all gave him a dismissive look.

He showed a short film, about fifteen minutes long, a documentary about the city of Los Angeles. Overall, it was pretty good, with delicate cinematography and detailed explanations.

After he finished, he looked at the group expectantly: "How was it?"

Park Sung-ho was the first to speak: "Quite good."

Han Yu said, "I really like the background music."

Maowa's comment was rather simple: "Well told."

Su Jin was the one who watched the most attentively among them. She commented, "I really like it, especially the last few shots of the city scenery. They're so evocative."

James immediately got excited: "I knew it, Sue has the best eye."

Park Sung-ho glanced at him: "And what's our opinion?"

"Is what you call an opinion? Sue's opinion is the real opinion," James retorted.

That night, James drank beer and talked to a few people about technical terms such as montage effects, and they didn't leave until very late.

After seeing James and his two companions off, Mao Wa said to Su Jin, who had just helped clean up the mess, "I'll take you home."

Su Jin was already quite familiar with the place, so she politely declined, saying, "No need, it's just at school, I can go back by myself."

Without a word, Maowa grabbed her bag: "Let's go!"

Su Jin smiled.

On the way back to the dormitory, Su Jin asked, "Was that short film really directed by James?"

"Yes, his dream is to make movies."

"That's impressive. People with dreams are all impressive."

Maowa asked casually, "And you? What are your dreams?"

Su Jin thought for a moment: "When I was a child, I wanted to be a writer, but later I found that being a writer is not so easy, so I settled for comparative literature, which at least brings me closer to literature."

Maowa asked casually, "And you? What are your dreams?"

Su Jin thought for a moment: "When I was a child, I wanted to be a writer, but later I found that being a writer is not so easy, so I settled for comparative literature, which at least brings me closer to literature."

Maowa nodded: "That's pretty good."

Su Jin countered with, "And you? Is studying medicine your dream?"

Maowa remained silent for a while, as Su Jin's words touched a raw nerve deep within him.

After a long pause, he replied, "I guess so. I originally planned to join the army to serve my country, but I couldn't do it for some reason, so I thought I'd just study medicine instead."

The observant Su Jin could sense that something was amiss, but instead of pressing for details, she agreed, saying, "Studying medicine is a good thing, it's just very hard work."

Mao Wa smiled slightly: "It's alright, I was mentally prepared."

Soon the two arrived at Su Jin's dormitory building.

Su Jin looked at Maowa and said, "Then I'll go up."

"Okay, bye-bye!"

"Bye-bye!" Maowa waved goodbye to Su Jin.

Back in the dorm, Monica, a Singaporean student who shared a dorm with Su Jin, said to her, "Su, there's a gathering of Chinese international students at the end of this month, and you're one of the invitees. Let's go together. I heard that most of the attendees are international students from China."

Su Jin thought for a moment. She remembered that Mao Wa had also told her earlier that he had been invited, so she agreed to her roommate's request: "Okay!"

The lab project has reached a critical stage, so Maowa is leaving early and returning late every day, spending more time in the lab than in his dormitory.

Su Jin was not relaxed either. She only had a one-year exchange period, so her daily schedule was packed.

For most of May, the two met much less often, but they still exchanged a few messages every day to ask how the other was doing.

That afternoon, Maowa's work in the lab went smoothly, and he finished the experiment ahead of schedule. After leaving the lab, he realized it was still before five o'clock, so he immediately sent Su Jin a message, "Where are you?"

Su Jin quickly replied: "Powell Library."

"Should I come find you?"

"Okay, see you in a bit!"

Mao Wa smiled, put his phone in his pocket, and headed towards the library, buying two cups of coffee along the way.
