Chapter 1 Summer Snow
Chapter 1 Summer Snow
The sky is bright.
A loud "bang" was heard.
The bedroom was dark and gloomy. The door was pushed open forcefully and slammed heavily against the wall behind it.
With a "click," the light bulb lit up as the switch was turned on.
The glaring light pierced through the layers of suspended dust and shone on the face of the girl sleeping face down on the bed. The girl smacked her lips, reluctantly turned over, and continued to snore.
A neatly dressed middle-aged woman stood at the door, her face cold, glancing at the girl who was fast asleep on the bed, a hint of anger flashing in her eyes.
"Knock knock knock".
The middle-aged woman stomped her leather shoes hard, walked around the bed, and went to the window.
With a "whoosh" sound.
Pull the curtains open forcefully.
With a "creak".
Push the window open forcefully.
A cool breeze blew in from outside, disturbing the stuffy air inside the room.
The girl on the bed seemed to sense the chill, pulled the blanket up tighter, and then fell fast asleep.
Seeing the girl still not out of bed, the middle-aged woman could no longer contain herself. She took a deep breath and yelled, "What time is it? Get up!"
Hearing the noise, a middle-aged man in pajamas rushed in from outside. He looked at his daughter on the bed with heartache, then tiptoed to the middle-aged woman's side and whispered, "Wanyi, it's only six o'clock. The child has already finished the college entrance examination. Let her sleep a little longer."
Shen Wanyi's voice instantly rose eight octaves.
"It's been so many days since the exams, and you've even received your acceptance letter. You've rested for over a month, and you still haven't had enough rest? Who does she think she is, a rich heiress? Get up now! You still have three textbooks left for your freshman year. Finish them as soon as possible and get some rest. Don't think that going to university means you can relax. Let me tell you, university is just the starting point for entering society. The road ahead is long..."
"Hmm~"
The girl on the bed let out a helpless groan, covered her ears forcefully, then opened her eyes with a look of utter despair, huffed and puffed, and stomped heavily in her slippers as she walked into the bathroom next door.
With a loud "bang".
The door was slammed shut.
Shen Wanyi angrily pointed at the bathroom door and yelled at the middle-aged man next to her, "Xia Yun, look at your good daughter! Is this how she treats me? Who am I doing all this for? What, now I can't even say a few words to her? Her temper is getting worse and worse. Tell me, who does she take after? She's completely out of control!"
Xia Yun muttered under her breath, "It's just like your temper, exactly the same."
Shen Wanyi's voice stopped abruptly, and she stared coldly at Xia Yun.
"What did you say?"
Xia Yun's face immediately plastered with a fawning smile.
"I didn't say anything, honey. Oh dear, it's so late, I have to go to work. Honey, I'm leaving now. Don't be angry, talk to Xiaoxue nicely."
After saying that, Xia Yun made a hasty escape, slipping away as if his feet were greased.
Shen Wanyi watched Xia Yun's retreating figure and spat lightly.
"You think you're so capable when it comes to a mundane job in a government office where you just sit around drinking tea and reading newspapers all day?"
Shen Wanyi withdrew her gaze and began tidying up the bedding on the bed.
"How old are you? You don't even know how to make your bed..."
Xia Xue walked into the bathroom with a dazed look on her face, pulled down her pants, and was about to pee when she suddenly remembered something. A look of embarrassment appeared on her face, and she quickly turned around and sat on the toilet, muttering to herself.
"I almost forgot, I'm a girl now."
Xia Xue heard Xia Yun leaving from outside, and a hint of sarcasm flashed in her eyes as she recalled the promises he had made to her yesterday.
"The original owner called him 'Dad' for so many years in vain. When it really matters, he's completely unreliable."
After Xia Xue finished washing up and came out of the bathroom, Shen Wanyi had already placed two slices of bread and a glass of milk on the desk.
"After you finish eating, hurry up and read your book."
Xia Xue put on her school uniform and black-rimmed glasses, sat down at her desk, and frowned as she looked at the meager breakfast in front of her. "It's too little. I'm not full."
Shen Wanyi glared at Xia Xue and said, "How much can a little girl like you eat? Eating too much will affect your studies. Hurry up and finish eating so you can read."
As she spoke, Shen Wanyi habitually reached for her phone on the table.
With a "snap".
Xia Xue pressed her hand on her phone, staring at Shen Wanyi, and said, "We agreed that my phone wouldn't be confiscated during the study period."
Shen Wanyi snorted: "The exam is in two hours. If your score is below 90, the agreement is void."
Xia Xue put her phone in her coat pocket.
"Scope".
Shen Wanyi glanced at the table of contents.
Volume One.
Xia Xue glanced at it and nodded.
"I need to study now, you can leave."
Shen Wanyi snorted coldly.
"You're so arrogant. People who don't know you know you're my daughter, but they'd think you're some rich heiress and I'm just a servant."
After saying that, Shen Wanyi stomped away in her leather shoes, slamming the door shut behind her with a loud bang.
Xia Xue's ears twitched, and after confirming that the person had left, she took out two packets of chocolate and a bottle of milk from behind the bookshelf.
"Let's just make do for now, and then we'll find an excuse to go out and have a proper meal later."
Xia Xue quickly finished eating everything, took the remaining packaging bags, went into the bathroom, gently rubbed them together, and they turned into powder, falling into the toilet. Then she flushed the toilet, erasing the last trace of their existence.
Xia Xue washed her hands, sat back down at her desk, quickly flipped through the first volume of the psychology textbook, then tossed it aside, took out her phone, and started looking at media-related content.
Two hours later, Shen Wanyi walked in with the test film.
He glanced at Xia Xue's phone on the desk, then slapped the test paper onto the desk.
"take an exam."
Xia Xue picked up her pen, stared at Shen Wanyi, and said, "This morning's study material is just the first volume. After the exam, I'm going out to play until 2 PM."
Shen Wanyi said angrily, "Who are you studying for? Is it for me? Isn't all the knowledge you gain your own? You're actually bargaining with your mother over studying? What kind of daughter are you?"
Xia Xue threw down her pen and leaned back.
"If you disagree, that's fine too. Then let's just wait and see."
Shen Wanyi said resentfully, "I must have owed you something in my past life. All I'm doing is making you study, and it's like I'm torturing you. Fine, as long as you get a perfect score, I'll agree."
Xia Xue shook her head and insisted, "It's 90 points. You've already raised the passing score from 80 to 90 this month, and we agreed that we wouldn't raise it any further."
Shen Wanyi looked at Xia Xue with a complicated expression, and muttered angrily, "I wonder who you got your temper from?"
Seeing that Shen Wanyi had agreed, Xia Xue began to write, and it took her nearly an hour to finish the test paper.
Shen Wanyi sat to the side, staring intently. Once Xia Xue finished, she quickly took the test paper and began grading it against the answers.
"Ninety-one points."
Shen Wanyi looked up and glanced at Xia Xue with a complicated expression.
"You're really amazing, you always cross the line perfectly."
Xia Xue stood up: "That just means I'm lucky."
Ha, luck? You're kidding me.
Shen Wanyi said with exasperation, "With such talent, why don't you study hard? All you think about is playing all day."
Xia Xue ignored her, got up and walked out. Shen Wanyi reached out to stop her, but before she could speak, Xia Xue's phone rang.
When Xia Xue saw the screen, her expression melted like snow, revealing a gentle smile. She turned and walked to the window to answer the phone.
"Xiaorou, is something the matter?"
A cheerful voice came from the other end of the phone.
"Xiaoxue, I'm back. Let's come out and play."
They really are on the same wavelength.
Xia Xue's face lit up with a happy smile.
"Okay, I'll be right there. See you at our usual spot."
Fang Rou chuckled.
"Okay, see you at the usual place."
Xia Xue took down her handbag from the wall and walked outside.
Shen Wanyi's eyes showed an expression that said, "I knew this would happen." She quickly took two steps to catch up, stuffed the book into Xia Xue's bag, and instructed, "Take your textbooks and look at them whenever you have a spare moment. Don't just play around."
Xia Xue glanced at her, said nothing, and just walked forward, opening the door without stopping, disappearing from Shen Wanyi's sight, leaving only the echoing sound of her footsteps fading into the distance in the corridor.
"This kid is getting wilder and wilder. I wonder where he learned it from."
Shen Wanyi shook her head and returned to Xia Xue's bedroom to tidy up her desk.
"How old are you? You can't even do housework. How can I feel at ease with you? You should just stay at home. Anyway, the universities are in the same city, it's only a few stops away."
Xia Xue ran to the entrance of the residential area and saw Fang Rou waiting for her under the shade of a tree.
"Xiaorou, have you been waiting long?"
Fang Rou shook her head and handed over a bottle of iced cola, saying, "Just arrived."
Xia Xue casually took the cola, twisted it open, tilted her head back, and took a big gulp. She exhaled heavily, then looked at Fang Rou and asked curiously, "Didn't you say you were going to play until school started? Why are you back so soon?"
Fang Rou gave Xia Xue, who was drinking cola like a boy, a look of disgust. She took a tissue from her bag, handed it to Xia Xue, and gestured for her to wipe the water from the corners of her mouth before replying irritably:
"Don't even mention it. My dad had already agreed to take a month off from work to take me on a nationwide tour and have a good time for a month. But after only a week, his company called and he had to go back to work. My mom and I lost interest in the trip, so we came back together."
Xia Xue knew that Fang Rou had been looking forward to this trip for a long time, and she must be very unhappy that it ended so abruptly. So she quickly changed the subject and asked, "By the way, what major did you choose?"
Fang Rou rolled her eyes when this was mentioned and said, "Accountant."
Xia Xue said with a smile, "Then it seems that Uncle has won this round."
Fang Rou's shoulders relaxed, and she said listlessly, "My mom switched sides at the last minute. She said it's too difficult to make a name for yourself in the fashion design industry. She had a very talented girl working for her, but even with her support, she was severely suppressed and couldn't get a permanent position. She had to leave the company and felt that accounting was more stable, so she sided with my dad."
Xia Xue gently patted Fang Rou's shoulder and comforted her, "Accounting is a good major. It's a popular major, and besides, your dad can help you. You'll definitely do well once you start working."
Fang Rou glanced at Xia Xue in surprise.
"The way you talk is just like my cousin."
But Xia Xue is clearly a woman.
Xia Xueqian chuckled and touched her nose.
"Yeah?"
Fang Rou shook her head, dismissing the bizarre thought in her mind, and then asked with concern, "By the way, did you choose journalism, which you like?"
Xia Xue sighed, glanced at the neighborhood, and shook her head: "You know how authoritarian my husband is. She said journalism had no future and rejected it outright. She insisted on having me study psychology instead, saying that in modern society, mental health issues are receiving more and more attention, the psychology market will grow, and it will give me an advantage whether I get into academia or a government job. Oh, right..."
As she spoke, Xia Xue remembered something, opened her handbag, and revealed the professional books inside.
"Look, my mom is forcing me to read psychology books every day, calling it 'previewing in advance' so I can get a head start."
Fang Rou glanced at the textbooks in her bag, hugged her arms tightly, shivered, and looked at Xia Xue with pity.
"Compared to all of these, my home is still the best."
At least her parents gave her two options and let her choose.
I didn't force her to study in advance either.
This is the summer vacation after the college entrance examination, and I'm being forced to study at home all day long. I can't even imagine it.
Seeing that Xia Xue had rested enough, the two walked towards the bus stop.
"By the way, where should we go for fun?"
Fang Rou replied enthusiastically, "I heard there's a haunted house near the Zuo Family Ancestral Hall that's really scary. Let's go there today!"
"it is good."
Looking at Fang Rou, who was as cheerful and lively as a little sun, a rare tenderness flashed in Xia Xue's eyes.
It felt like she had returned to three months ago, to the day she had just transmigrated.
At that time, she had just finished receiving the original owner's memories and was bearing the heavy burden on her body caused by the original owner's ingestion of a large amount of sleeping pills. She fought off sleepiness and repeatedly told herself, "Don't fall asleep, don't fall asleep. If you fall asleep, you will never wake up again." But drowsiness came like a tide, and she was about to lose control. At her most desperate moment, an angelic voice seemed to come from the horizon.
"Excuse me, are you alright?"
At the same time, a voice resounded in her heart.
"Interacting with the female lead, guest appearance system activated..."
"1%, 2%...99%, 100%."
"A cameo appearance in 'Brave the Entertainment Industry, I'm a Lucky Koi, Who's Afraid of Me?' is currently opening the treasure chest..."
"Opening the treasure chest for the first time, transcending the constraints of the work."
"Max level of 'Dao Fa Zi Ran Gong' (Taoist Natural Skill)".
"The Dao Fa Zi Ran Gong: Refine essence into qi, refine qi into spirit, refine spirit to return to emptiness, refine emptiness to unite with the Dao, the Dao follows nature. The orthodox Daoist method of longevity; by practicing it, one can attain longevity and eternal youth."
"Max level feature: Automatic operation."
Then, Xia Xue felt a warm current flowing slowly through her body, and the discomfort caused by the drug overdose gradually disappeared.
"Phew, I'm finally alive."
When Xia Xue opened her eyes as if she were reborn, she saw Fang Rou's eyes full of concern.
That gentle and refreshing face was breathtakingly beautiful in the sunlight!
