Chapter 1384: Now I Finally Understand
Chapter 1384: Now I Finally Understand
The seven members led by Ye Fan, watching the Poison Dragon Mercenary Corps’ stronghold under strict guard, felt a surge of joy in their hearts. The seven had severely depleted their ammunition, but now they were well-supplied.
In dealing with ordinary mercenaries, they had more than enough; there wouldn’t be significant difficulties. The only thing they needed to be wary of were the three commanders: Hawk, Grizzly Bear, and Sea Horse. While eliminating others, these three commanders were their ultimate targets.
"We finally found the Poison Dragon Mercenary Corps’ stronghold. We’ve not had the best of luck; out of the four suspicious target areas, it took reaching the third one before confirming their true base," Zhang Lu said with a delighted expression.
"Can we start the attack now?" Yang Shu eagerly looked at Ye Fan and asked, "I’ve been waiting for this moment for a long time."
From rescuing Chi Qinyuan’s and others’ bodies at the start of the battle to chasing Black Shark, they indeed went through many events, encountering unexpected twists due to the deep and complex networks of the Poison Dragon Mercenary Corps.
But now, those hindrances were negligible, as no one was willing to help the Poison Dragon Mercenary Corps anymore.
Through brutal suppression, they had achieved the current success and results.
"Find a suitable sniping spot and first show the Poison Dragon Mercenary Corps our presence as a threat," Ye Fan said. "Let the enemy fall into chaos, and we’ll react accordingly, watching their movements to devise our attack strategy."
Before long, the seven located an ideal sniping spot on a high ground, dozens of meters from the patrolling mercenaries of the Poison Dragon Mercenary Corps, and lay in ambush there.
"This is our final battle, the most glorious and attention-grabbing one. Although the enemy isn’t strong, we must not underestimate them until we’ve eliminated all targets and completed our mission," Ye Fan warned.
Zhang Lu and the others agreed, not daring to defy Ye Fan’s admonition.
"Bang bang bang!!!"
As the trigger was pulled, bullets angrily shot out of the barrel, making a muffled sound due to the silencer’s interference.
Killer bullets whistled through the space, creating slight ripples undetectable by the naked eye, aiming for the kill.
Inside the Poison Dragon Mercenary Corps’ stronghold, seven mercenaries in different locations were hit, blood splattering, bodies falling to the ground.
After the first wave of shooting, a second wave of bullets pierced through the space, heading towards the targets within the scopes.
"Enemy attack!"
"Enemy attack!!"
"Enemy attack!!!"
The Poison Dragon Mercenary Corps fell into chaos, but gradually calmed after a brief panic.
They were elite warriors, having fought numerous fierce battles and gained rich combat experience.
One by one, the mercenaries became calm, searching for targets and starting to counterattack.
Despite the situation, Ye Fan and his group remained on high ground while the stronghold lay on flat terrain, creating a clear strategic advantage, giving mercenaries a hard time, rendering their organized resistance virtually ineffective.
Most crucially, lacking good cover made them easy targets, unable to escape the fate of being sniped.
After a brief battle resulting in some casualties, the mercenaries determined the enemy’s exact position, trading a significant cost for enough room to maneuver, hiding and beginning their counterattack.
Utilizing whatever weapons they had, the mercenaries began their counterattack, as gunfire erupted and echoed loudly.
"They’ve come." Listening to the signal of the enemy’s arrival, the three commanders, Hawk, Sea Horse, and Grizzly Bear, showed a relieved expression. This scene was inevitable, just as they imagined; the enemy had indeed come.
"As expected, they’ve come as anticipated," Grizzly Bear laughed bitterly. "From now on, it’s a matter of life and death, depending on one’s skill. Though we have a numerical advantage, it means little against these enemies, so this battle demands real skill with no room for underestimation and carelessness."
"Let our men fight it out first. We’ll wait for the right moment to intervene," Sea Horse said.
"Instruct our forces to charge at any cost to surround the enemy, narrow the battle range, and try to engage in close combat, using our numerical advantage to wear them out," Hawk commanded sternly. "We can’t let them escape our sight; if they attack when they want, retreat when they choose, and then attack again, it would create insurmountable difficulties for us, becoming a battle of attrition we can’t afford."
"Big brother’s right. We must encircle them and fight with all we’ve got," Grizzly Bear said resolutely.
The three commanders issued commands from their post.
Mercenaries spread out, flanking from different directions to attack the hiding spot of Ye Fan’s seven.
Besides drawing frontal fire and counterattacking Ye Fan’s seven, there was activity from mercenaries in other directions too.
"Da da da!"
Bullets roared, gunfire rang densely, and a rain of bullets continually rained down on Ye Fan and his group’s position.
The battlefield instantly turned into a slaughterhouse filled with a barrage of bullets.
Mercenaries constantly fell, only to be replaced by more charging forward.
Facing a mercenary-formed encirclement, the seven fought their way out, abandoning the frontal fight, then flanked the enemy from another direction, disrupting their coordination.
This pattern of battle continued to unfold in the forest.
Time passed swiftly.
Ten minutes... half an hour... one hour.
Two hours.
Three hours.
The continuous fighting and bloodshed echoed in the dense forest.
The commanders, Hawk, Sea Horse, and Grizzly Bear, grew increasingly uneasy.
Listening to the continuous reports from below, the commanders’ expressions darkened.
"Now I understand why Old Five’s forces collapsed and fled miserably after losing manpower, only to meet their demise in the end."
"Now I understand why General Hawan and White Whale were constantly outmaneuvered."
"Now I understand why the Spine Team was wiped out and why General Hawan died so unjustly?"
"Now I understand why Black Cat surrendered?"
"Now I understand why that minister abandoned us."
After experiencing Ye Fan’s seven’s combat firsthand, Hawk, Grizzly Bear, and Sea Horse exchanged looks, pondering deeply.
