Chapter 765: Hard to Pursue
Chapter 765: Hard to Pursue
The last time we met briefly, I noticed the old man had lost a lot of weight and his face looked pale."Why are you crying?" The old man still spoke with authority, "As a descendant of the Seymour Family, crying is absolutely not allowed. Don’t you know that?"
Melody Thorne bit her lower lip and held the old man’s hand tight, pouting, "Everyone says grandfathers love their granddaughters, but you, as soon as we meet, you start scolding."
"Weren’t you the one crying as soon as we met?" The old man weakly replied, his demeanor like a stubborn old child.
"Then I won’t cry, and you mustn’t scold either," Melody pushed her tears back, still holding his hand tightly, suppressing her emotions.
"Grandpa," Stella Seymour also walked over and called out softly.
"You dare to come back? Don’t you want to break that leg?" The old man had something to say to everyone.
"Grandpa, didn’t you say Hans Montrose was the best match for my life and your most satisfactory grandson-in-law? I ran out to bring back the grandson-in-law you’re most satisfied with."
"Did you manage to bring him back?"
"No..." Stella shook her head. Hans Montrose had a firm stance. During the days she went to his house to take care of him, she was almost thrown out by him every day, and every time she got in was through climbing the window. It wasn’t easy to pursue him.
"Spineless," the old man snorted, "Show the courage of the Seymour Family, if it doesn’t work, just bring him back by force, why waste the effort?"
Stella Seymour "...I’m not a shrew."
"Dad," Howard Seymour slid his wheelchair a few times, "Today, I brought someone over."
"Where are they?"
"Sila," Howard Seymour looked behind him.
Sila walked in from outside, looking at the aged man on the sickbed, clutching the hem of her skirt, "Dad..."
"Ahh," the old man’s eyes suddenly reddened as he repeatedly said, "It’s good you’re back, it’s good you’re back. Seeing your family of three has finally found happiness, one of my wishes is fulfilled. The daughter-in-law I’m most satisfied with in my life is you, and now that I’m gone, Howard will have someone to look after him."
"Grandpa, don’t say such things," Melody interrupted him.
"Alright, alright, cough... cough, cough," the old man coughed violently for a few moments, "Life is what it is. You don’t need to be sad. Right, I have something to say to Jared Quinn and Melody, you all go out first and close the door."
Howard Seymour and Sila exchanged a glance and left with Stella Seymour to wait outside.
"Grandpa, have some water," Melody Thorne helped the old man up and fed him a few sips of water, "Take your time saying what you need to, don’t rush."
The old man let out a bitter smile. With so little time left, how could he not rush?
"Melody, take out the box from my bedside cabinet."
Melody Thorne opened the drawer of the bedside cabinet, finding a hollowed-out crafted box, which didn’t appear to be from Crestfall.
"Open it, there’s a jade piece inside for Jared Quinn," the old man spoke. "I got this jade unknowingly, then found out it belonged to the old Mr. Quinn from two decades ago. By coincidence, this jade came into my possession not long ago. I heard old Mr. Quinn used to carry this piece frequently, so I thought the reason he stayed safe might have to do with this jade pendant."
Melody Thorne held the jade pendant in her palm, feeling its icy coldness, and handed it to Jared Quinn, "Was this grandpa’s?"
Jared Quinn recognized it at a glance, "Yes, but grandpa gave it to my dad, and for some unknown reason, my dad lost it."
