Chapter 14 Jessica Jung is here
Chapter 14 Jessica Jung is here
In the conference room, when the three of them saw Chen Ran, their eyes lit up simultaneously.
"Please have a seat, Mr. Chen Ran."
The middle-aged man sitting in the middle gestured for Chen Ran to sit in the empty chair opposite him, and then continued his introduction:
"I am Yoon Ha-rim, the representative and chief producer of HD Company. You should be familiar with the woman on your left, screenwriter Kim Eun-sook. The woman on your right is the company's project director, Ms. Lee Eun-hee."
Chen Ran greeted everyone and finally sat down in the chair.
He appeared poised and confident throughout the process, without being overly reserved or nervous, which further improved the three people's impression of him.
Sitting on the left, Kim Eun-sook looked at him and smiled, "Chen Ran-xi seems a little surprised to see me."
She noticed Chen Ran's stunned expression when he saw her.
Chen Ran nodded and replied calmly, "I am indeed a little surprised to see you here, screenwriter Jin, because the company's reply email said that I would be interviewed by Representative Yoon and Director Lee."
Kim Eun-sook smiled amiably: "Because Representative Yoon told me that the company received a good script, which is mainly set in a high school. The new script I'm currently preparing to write is also mainly set in a high school, which is a type I haven't tried before."
"I looked at the first three episodes of the script submitted by Chen Ranxi. They were very mature and didn't seem like the work of a new screenwriter. They also gave me a lot of creative inspiration, so I wanted to see what kind of person wrote this script."
"You flatter me," Chen Ran said modestly.
My idea was right; the script caught Kim Eun-sook's attention.
"I just didn't expect Chen Ran to be not only young, but also so good-looking. Logically speaking, you should be an actress or an idol."
Kim Eun-sook's words prompted Yoon Ha-rim and Lee Eun-hee, who were standing nearby, to nod in agreement.
When they first saw Chen Ran, their immediate thought was, "This face should be used for acting or idoling."
Chen Ran blinked and replied, "Neither of these suits me. I can't make many expressions when facing the camera because my face is stiff, and I'm also tone-deaf."
Upon hearing this, the three people opposite nodded in understanding.
Yin Helin then picked up the conversation, flipping through Chen Ran's resume as he asked:
"Chen Ran graduated from the Department of Literature at Seoul National University. Why did you want to become a screenwriter?"
"Because I'm interested, I think it's very interesting to create vivid characters and stories with my own pen."
Chen Ran's answer was simple and fairly common, but his expression was calm and composed, as if it were his truest answer.
Kim Eun-sook glanced at him and nodded secretly.
She could tell that Chen Ran's answer was sincere; there was a light in the young man's eyes.
"Okay, we've read Chen Ran's script. It's a very good script. Chen Ran has also provided the original manuscript to prove that it's your original work."
Yin Helin glanced through the script of "School 2013," then looked up at Chen Ran: "Director Li and I both think this script has investment value. Now we'd like to ask Chen Ran, are you interested in signing with HD Company and becoming a screenwriter for them?"
Without much thought, Chen Ran nodded: "I am willing."
He had already considered this issue when he was creating "School 2013".
With information from Jessica's side, which came from the future, Chen Ran knew about HD Company's promising future.
Moreover, his target, Kim Eun-sook, did not leave HD Company until 2025; on the contrary, their bond deepened.
As things stand, joining HD is his best option, and it will give him a background in the future.
Yin Helin smiled and said, "Okay, I'll have someone send the contract over so you can take a look."
He took out his phone, made a call, and gave a few instructions.
Soon, there was a knock on the door, and the girl who had brought Chen Ran over earlier delivered the contract.
Chen Ran carefully reviewed the contract.
The contract is for 3 years. The script will be produced by the company, the copyright will belong to the author, and the company will receive 7% of the revenue, while Chen Ran will receive 3%.
This condition is quite reasonable for Chen Ran, a new screenwriter with no representative works.
This condition and profit sharing are only possible because the screenwriter has a high status in the Korean entertainment industry.
For idols, getting 10% of the revenue share when they first debut is considered good; some exploitative companies don't even give them 10%.
Moreover, idols have to repay the training costs during their trainee period before they can start earning money after the money they earn from their debut.
There were no problems with the contract. Chen Ran turned to the last page and signed his name.
Yin Helin stood up and extended his hand to Chen Ran: "Welcome to HD."
Chen Ran reached out and shook hands with him: "Thank you, Representative Yin. It's my honor."
"Our company holds regular exchange meetings so that screenwriters can exchange ideas with each other."
Yoon Ha-rim glanced at Kim Eun-sook beside him: "Screenwriter Kim Eun-sook also participates from time to time to share some of her experience with everyone."
Kim Eun-sook looked at Chen Ran and smiled slightly: "I happen to be writing a campus drama script. We can exchange ideas sometime. I usually write scripts at the coffee shop across the street. Chen Ran-xi can find me there."
Unlike some people who require a quiet creative environment, she prefers environments with some noise, such as coffee shops.
Chen Ran's scripts are different from her style, but they do have their merits.
Chen Ran's eyes lit up.
What he wanted was the opportunity to get to know Kim Eun-sook.
"Okay, thank you, Ms. Kim Eun-sook."
---
"Jessica, do you think Chen Ran might meet screenwriter Kim Eun-sook if he goes to HD?"
On the second floor of the villa, in the bedroom shared by Chen Ran and Jessica, Jung Soo-jung sat cross-legged on the bed and asked a question.
Jessica, who was leaning against the headboard scrolling through her phone, paused and shook her head.
"I don't know, but based on Chen Ran's script, it shouldn't be a problem for him to be included in HD."
They were well aware of the quality of the drama "School 2013".
"As long as Chen Ran joins HD, he'll always have a chance to meet Kim Eun-sook."
"That's true."
Krystal Jung nodded.
Suddenly, a burst of heavy rain began.
She turned to look at the window where Chen Ran was; it had started raining outside.
But looking at Jessica's side, it was still a bright sunny day outside the window, the sunlight was simply too bright.
"Wow, it's really amazing! I would never have believed it if I hadn't seen it with my own eyes. It's clearly one house, but the two sides are like two different worlds, and the weather is different too."
Krystal Jung widened her eyes slightly and sighed.
When Jessica told her about the amazing features of the house yesterday, she was initially a little skeptical.
But after seeing the completely different weather in the bedroom and experiencing it for herself, she believed it.
Jessica, however, was already used to it, and gently kicked Krystal's butt with her fair little foot.
"Go and close the window for Chen Ran, or the rain will blow in."
Why don't you go yourself?
Krystal Jung made a small complaint, but still obediently got out of bed, walked over to Chen Ran, and closed the window.
After closing the door, she looked outside curiously.
The next second, however, he froze.
"Jessica! I see Jessica... Oh no, I see Jung Soo-yeon."
