On the Eve of Chapter 72
On the Eve of Chapter 72
The day before the bidding, Zuo Cheng and his team conducted a final rehearsal of the proposed solution.
In the conference room, the cover of the bidding presentation slides was displayed on the projection screen. Zuo Cheng stood at the podium, with Chen Hao, Zhang Lei, Ma Hao, Han Lu, Liu Wei, and others sitting behind him. Everyone's expression was serious; tomorrow was the decisive battle, and there was no room for error.
"Let's begin," Zuo Cheng said.
He pressed the remote control, flipped the PowerPoint presentation to the first page, and began simulating a formal presentation.
"Good morning, esteemed judges. I am Zuo Cheng from 402 Technology. Today, I will be presenting the technical solution for the third phase of the Sky Dome project."
He first explained the project background, then the technical architecture. When he got to the core aspects, he paused deliberately and emphasized the key points.
"The third phase is five times the size of the second phase, with the number of terminals increasing from 20,000 to 100,000. A centralized architecture will inevitably encounter computing bottlenecks. Our solution uses distributed processing, where each satellite node has independent computing power and can be dynamically scheduled according to the load."
Turning to the architecture diagram in the PPT, Zuo Cheng explained the mechanism of the three-layer collaboration between the core network, edge nodes, and satellite-to-ground links, layer by layer. The logic was rigorous and the presentation was clear.
Ma Hao was in charge of the adaptive coding and modulation part. This was the first time he had taken on such an important task since joining 402, but he remained very calm.
"Traditional adaptive coding and modulation adjusts parameters based on a fixed rule table," Ma Hao said, pointing to a comparison chart on the PPT. "Our solution incorporates machine learning, allowing the system to autonomously learn the optimal parameters. This improves spectral efficiency by 23 percent and enables it to adapt to more complex channel environments."
He presented the measured data, and the comparison on the graph was immediately clear.
Chen Hao then explained the system architecture, clearly outlining the interfaces and functions of each module.
The entire drill lasted for more than two hours. After finishing his explanation, Zuo Cheng looked around.
"Is there a problem?"
Zhang Lei raised his hand: "The price for the business portion still needs to be considered. Huaxin might launch a price war, and if our price is too high, we'll lose points."
"We've already pushed the price down to the lowest possible level," Han Lu said. "Any lower and we'll lose money."
"Then let's maximize our technical score," Zuo Cheng said. "If our technical score is high enough, we can make up for the gap in our business score."
Liu Wei raised his hand: "I have another concern. What about Lin Jianhua? Huaxin's CTO is personally overseeing the bidding evaluation committee, and he even has veto power."
The meeting room fell silent for a few seconds.
Zuo Cheng nodded: "We've considered this. Lin Jianhua is Huaxin's top technical leader, and his personal involvement in the bidding evaluation committee clearly indicates his determination to win. However, bidding is a collective decision-making process, and even if he has veto power, he needs to maintain a respectable stance in public."
"The problem is, he can find reasons," Liu Wei said. "He has plenty of ways to question the feasibility of our technology and find flaws in our solutions."
"Therefore, our plan must be flawless," Zuo Cheng said, "so that he can't find any fault with it. The acceptance report for the second phase of Sky Dome, scoring 94 points, is right there; that's the official rating given by Blue Bay Communications, and no one can deny it."
He looked at everyone, his tone firm.
"We'll be bidding tomorrow, giving it our all. No matter what methods Huaxin uses, we'll let our strength speak for itself."
Everyone echoed in agreement.
After the drill, Zuo Cheng remained alone in the conference room. He opened the system panel to check the current status.
Points: 113. The technology radar is still cooling down; it will be available again in a dozen hours.
Zuo Cheng scanned the status of all the blades. All fourteen blades on the communication engineering branch were activated normally, and the intelligent adaptive modulation system blade was glowing faintly, indicating good operating status. This fusion blade was 402's secret weapon. Others only saw a technical solution, but only Zuo Cheng knew that there was a system-enhanced efficiency boost behind the solution. With this boost, 402's adaptive modulation solution was at least a generation ahead of its competitors.
He took a deep breath and turned off the system panel.
The door was pushed open, and Chen Hao walked in.
"Brother Cheng, I've gone through the plan again, and there are no flaws," he said. "But there's something I want to remind you of."
"explain."
"What if Lin Jianhua questions our company's size? 402 is, after all, a small company. Huaxin has a research and development team of over a thousand people. The judges might think we're not big enough and that our delivery capabilities are risky."
"We may lack scale, but we're efficient," Zuo Cheng said. "In the second phase of Sky Dome, our 11-person team achieved a score of 94. What did Huaxin's 100-person team accomplish? Fewer people isn't a disadvantage; it's an advantage in efficiency. Which is more trustworthy: 11 people achieving 94 points, or 100 people achieving 80 points?"
Chen Hao thought for a moment, then smiled and said, "That makes sense. If anyone asks this question tomorrow, you should answer it yourself."
"rest assured."
"Get some rest," Zuo Cheng said. "Tomorrow's a tough battle."
That evening, Yu Ying came to the company to see him.
"The bidding is tomorrow, are you nervous?"
"A little," Zuo Cheng said honestly. "I'm not nervous about whether I'll win or not, I'm nervous about whether something unexpected will happen."
"You're very well prepared," Yu Ying said. "I believe you can win."
The two were strolling in the small park downstairs from the company. The early autumn night breeze carried a hint of coolness, and the moonlight dappled the treetops.
"I'll treat you to dinner after the bidding is over," Zuo Cheng said.
"Okay, I'll wait." Yu Ying smiled, then paused and added, "My advisor said the list of the evaluation committee will be announced tomorrow. Would you like to know who's on it in advance?"
"Think about it. Especially besides Lin Jianhua, who else might be a threat to us?"
"Let me ask, I'll let you know tomorrow morning."
"Thank you, Kongkong."
"Why are you being so polite with me?"
The two walked to the bench and sat down, with Yu Ying resting her head on his shoulder.
"Brother," she whispered.
"Um?"
"No matter what the outcome is tomorrow, I will be proud of you."
Zuo Cheng felt a warmth in his heart and took her hand.
"With you here, I'm not afraid of anything."
As night deepened, Zuo Cheng put Yu Ying in a taxi and watched the taillights disappear around the street corner.
He turned and went back to the company; the office lights were still on. Chen Hao was setting up the demonstration equipment, Zhang Lei was checking the quotation sheet, Liu Wei was organizing business documents, and Ma Hao was reviewing the last piece of code for the algorithm module. Everyone was making final preparations.
Zuo Cheng walked to his workstation and read through the tender document again from beginning to end.
no problem.
He closed his laptop and took a deep breath.
Tomorrow, it's time to go on stage.
