Chapter 50 Rebellion Deep Within the Genes
Chapter 50 Rebellion Deep Within the Genes
Inside the cramped medical pod, Suya was strapped to the operating table, her body tensing up from time to time due to violent spasms.
"Body temperature 41 degrees Celsius! Heart rate 220! Her cells are self-dissolving!" Acha's voice blared through the communicator, accompanied by the rapid clatter of keyboard keystrokes. "Lin Mo, are you sure you want to do this? This inhibitor has never been tested in living organisms. If the dosage is wrong, she will be brain dead immediately!"
Lin Mo's hands did not tremble at all.
He gripped the syringe filled with a dark blue liquid tightly, his gaze fixed on Suya's small face, contorted with pain.
Sweat soaked her bangs, and the barcode mark on the back of her neck was now a dark red, like a festering wound.
"She didn't lose control." Lin Mo's voice was hoarse, yet it carried a resolute calmness. "She was afraid of hurting me."
Just minutes ago, Suya's unfocused eyes revealed not murderous intent, but despair.
When she saw Lin Mo return from the deep sea, the subconscious command to "protect her brother" overwhelmed everything. To prevent herself from becoming a killing weapon for "Phoenix" or "Noah," her brain issued the most extreme command—to completely destroy this body and render the "weapon" obsolete.
This is a defense mechanism that comes at the cost of self-destruction.
"Listen carefully, Acha." Lin Mo pressed the cold needle against Suya's vein in her arm, took a deep breath, and said, "If she really wanted to kill me, I would have been dead the moment I surfaced. She's seeking death, and I want her to live!"
"Countdown begins! Three hours—this is the critical timeframe for the genetic chain to break down!"
Lin Mo suddenly pushed in the medicine.
The pale blue liquid slowly entered Su Ya's blood vessels through the IV tube.
Almost instantly, Suya let out a shrill scream, her body arched like a boiled shrimp, and the blood and tears seeping from her eyes surged even more fiercely.
"The inhibitors are fighting against her immune system!" Acha reported the data urgently. "Her genetic locks are undergoing frantic restructuring; that's the deepest defense code of 'Eden'! Lin Mo, a hidden sequence within her that we've never seen before has been activated!"
Lin Mo grabbed Su Ya's struggling hands, pressed his face close to her ear, and shouted, "Su Ya! Look at me! I'm your brother! Do you remember? The day we escaped, you said you wanted strawberry ice cream! Do you remember?"
Su Ya's eyelids twitched violently, and a faint glimmer of clarity seemed to flash in her blood-red pupils.
"Brother... Brother..." she managed to squeeze out two words from her throat, her voice hoarse as if sandpaper were being rubbed.
"Yes! It's me!" Lin Mo's eyes were red, but his hands moved with lightning speed, quickly adjusting the IV pump's flow rate. "Don't sleep! Don't give up! We barely survived, I won't allow you to give up now!"
"But...it hurts so much..." Suya cried, tears streaming down her face, washing away the blood. "I...I'm afraid I'll turn into a monster...and kill you..."
"You will never be a monster!" Lin Mo leaned down, pressing his forehead against hers, letting her nails dig into his arm until blood flowed freely. "You are my sister. Whether you are a perfect weapon or an ordinary child, you are my sister. Even if the whole world wants to kill you, I will always stand by your side."
The alarm in the medical pod remained shrill, but as the inhibitor penetrated deeper, the red mark on Suya's neck began to fade slowly, and the eerie blue light and blood-red light clashed fiercely in her blood vessels.
Time passed by, second by second.
Two hours and fifty-eight minutes.
Suya's struggles gradually subsided, and her rapid breathing slowly became steady. Her eyes, which had been bloodshot, finally refocused, reflecting Lin Mo's tired and worried face.
"Brother..." she called out weakly, a clear tear sliding down her cheek.
Lin Mo's taut nerves finally snapped. He slumped into his chair, letting out a long breath, as if a heavy burden had been lifted from his shoulders.
"I'm here," he whispered, holding his sister's cold hand. "I've always been here."
Although the crisis was temporarily averted, the inhibitor only temporarily suppressed the collapse of the genetic lock. Lin Mo knew that the "rebellious" program hidden deep within Su Ya's genes had not disappeared; it had merely gone into hibernation, waiting for its next eruption. And next time, they might not be so lucky.
