Chapter 21: Harvest Days
Chapter 21: Harvest Days
As Li Yisen followed the blood trail to the edge of the forest, a faint feeling suddenly surfaced in his mind. It was a feeling he had never experienced before, and he didn't know how to describe it. It was as if following the blood trail might lead to something.
"The Shining's abilities?"
What's at the end of the bloodstain, a brown bear or a black bear?
No, the only brown bear subspecies in Los Angeles, the grizzly bear, went extinct decades ago.
Lee Ethan stared intently at the beast trail that grew darker as the sun set, but eventually retreated step by step, deciding not to investigate any further. After all, the death of the man was of no use to him, and besides, there were more important things to do, such as chasing after the ambulance that Henry had described.
Fortunately, although the police car was riddled with bullet holes on the left side, it could still start. However, the car radio was completely destroyed, making it impossible to report the incident.
(Portable walkie-talkies have a range of 10 kilometers in open areas, but may not even reach 5 kilometers in the mountains, so only vehicle radios and satellite phones can be used.)
Lee Ethan quickly saw the dust and smoke descending the mountain in a zigzag pattern. Without guessing, he could only mean an ambulance. So he hurriedly stopped the police car on the road and took out a handheld remote-controlled roadblock from the trunk.
"parking."
The ambulance driver was startled by the police in front of him, but stopping was out of the question, as there were 15 kilograms of drugs being transported in bulk inside the ambulance, worth millions of dollars.
The driver knocked on the vehicle to let those behind know what was going on.
"Hey, there are cops blocking the way, get your weapons out."
Seeing that the ambulance was indeed heading straight for them, Lee Ethan deployed the remote-controlled roadblock. As expected, the ambulance ran over the roadblock, causing a tire blowout and crashing into the police car.
Just as Lee Ethan approached, the driver in the driver's seat picked up a pistol and fired at him. Unfortunately, facing a well-prepared police officer, he could only be shot in the head.
The next second, the door to the ambulance was opened, and a man dressed as a paramedic pulled out a handgun.
"Bang bang bang bang bang"
The two sides exchanged fire again, and the gunman also fell to the ground after being shot several times, while Lee Ethan clutched his arm.
"Damn it, I got shot."
He survived a 1v5 fight without getting hurt, and now he's been shot by a pistol. What bad luck!
Despite the pain, Li Yisen went to the back of the car. The criminals he had imagined posing as injured people did not appear. Instead, he found a large amount of heroin in the first-aid kit.
"It must weigh at least 10 kilograms here."
Li Yisen suddenly noticed the hydrogen peroxide disinfectant placed to the side, and a bold idea immediately came to mind.
15 kilograms is an achievement, 10 kilograms is also an achievement, maybe so.
In addition, the system notified that unprecedented rewards had been accumulated.
A 3-star weapon?
It seems we'll have to wait until the case is closed before we can settle the accounts.
.
Meanwhile, on the other side, the entire Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department was shocked by the information reported by Evelyn; it was definitely a case that might not occur even once a year.
At least three narcotics detectives may have died, and now drug traffickers are still hunting down two local patrol officers. This is intolerable; those damned drug traffickers are too arrogant.
Most importantly, the smuggling routes are about to be discovered. Once the routes are blocked, the amount of drugs flowing into Los Angeles each year will decrease by about 10%.
The head of the county headquarters' drug investigation bureau issued an emergency order.
"Deploy the SWAT team, contact the state police, request their assistance in blocking all entrances and exits to San Antonio Hills, deploy police aircraft, and have the city of Claremont mobilize all available police resources."
The county police's major operation was quickly noticed by some news media, and the entire city of Clermont was in an uproar. Both the North and South Police Departments dispatched officers into the mountains, with no fewer than 300 officers in total.
Meanwhile, local police stations blocked all exits from the mountains to prevent drug traffickers from coming out of the mountains.
Police cars and even armored vehicles entered the mountains, but the most eye-catching sight was the police helicopters overhead.
One was a transport plane used for rescue, another was a police helicopter equipped with a sniper, and the last two helicopters that arrived late were helicopters transporting 15 special police officers.
No police officer could ignore the commotion today.
Northern Police Department, Andrew Bailey is on the phone with the mountains.
"Evelyn, come back here right now."
"No, Ethan needs my backup."
"Eve..."
The call was disconnected, and Andrew was so angry he almost smashed his phone.
"Damn it, I shouldn't have sent them to patrol the mountains."
Originally, he transferred Li Yisen and his team to the mountains only to appease some veteran officers and send a signal that he had already punished the new recruits, so they should stop targeting them in their work.
Who knew this would happen?
While he acknowledged Ethan Lee's abilities, he disliked his arrogant and unruly nature. He believed Lee needed some training, and even if Lee died in the line of duty, he wouldn't say anything, at most a few words of regret, since outstanding police officers emerge every year.
The only one they can't afford to lose is Evelyn, this important client. Otherwise, their police department's budget will be significantly reduced next year, and the higher-ups will blame him.
"hateful."
.
On the other side of the mountain, Evelyn let Henry go down the mountain alone, while she walked back alone.
She had thought it through. Although she was very scared, she couldn't let her partner, instructor, and best friend face the danger alone. Two against five might not be a bad idea.
Evelyn's resigned attitude toward death was quickly shattered when she first saw several masked corpses in the woods, and then the ambulance driver who had been shot dead.
From a distance, it looked like the man she was worried about was pouring packets of white stuff into a container.
"What is this? It looks like drugs?"
Evelyn's mind went blank for a moment. What was Ethan doing? Was he going to take the drugs?
Evelyn was unaware of this; she instinctively pretended to fall, causing the body camera to stop.
As the footsteps drew closer, she finally couldn't help but speak.
"Ethan, what are you doing?"
Lee Yisen was stunned. He never expected this silly girl to come back, and even witness him destroying the drugs.
"Your body camera?"
"I turned it off, what are you doing?"
When Li Yisen heard the other party turn off the body camera, he was stunned again. Evelyn was so sensible?
He couldn't let the other party get away with it no matter what, so he said in a deep voice.
"Evelyn, come here for a second, this is for you."
Evelyn was a little confused, but instinctively took the white package.
"Is this heroin?"
"That's right, congratulations on getting it right."
Before Evelyn could put it down, Lee Ethan had already torn open the bag, spilling the white powder inside into a container of clear liquid, and grabbed her arm.
"What are you doing? Let go!"
"I just want to destroy these things."
"This is embezzled money; it must be turned over."
Li Yisen whispered in the policewoman's ear.
"Since they're going to be destroyed anyway, I might as well destroy them myself. Besides, aren't you worried they'll be secretly sold off by the higher-ups?"
Although the law stipulates that they should be destroyed, they are not necessarily sold.
While in prison, Lee Esen heard some inmates say that they had experience buying drugs from the police.
Evelyn was persuaded, and even if she hadn't, she couldn't have stopped it. The hands gripping her arm made it impossible for her to resist, and she could only watch as the drugs fell into the hydrogen peroxide. She could smell it.
Evelyn watched the goods dissolve, knowing full well that her actions were illegal, as she was destroying stolen goods without authorization, but she didn't seem to feel much resistance.
(Father, it seems I've become a corrupt cop, and I've brought shame upon the family.)
